Legislative Advocates is a state and local government relations and association management firm located in Salem, Oregon, which specializes in general business, land use, natural resources and telecommunications issues. The government relations work is performed by Mike Dewey and Fawn Barrie. We also have full-time support staff that assist with client services and with influencing state legislative and agency administrative proceedings. Legislative Advocates has over 45 years of collective governmental relations experience. Our team knows and has access to the players – from the Governor to the Congressional delegation to statewide elected officials, Democrat and Republican legislators, committee staff, legislative aides, legislative counsel, and legislative fiscal and revenue officers. We are involved in the ballot measure and candidate campaign processes and manage Political Action Committees on behalf of a number of our clients.
Ms. Barrie has worked in Oregon politics for the past 18 years. She represents clients on a variety of issues including general business issues, healthcare and natural resource issues. Ms. Barrie previously served as the Communications Director for two former House Majority Leaders in the 2003 and 2005 Legislative Sessions and worked on several campaigns. She received her BA in Political Science from Wittenberg University.
Mr. Dewey has represented clients before the state and federal government for over 35 years. A Salem native, he graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Political Science. He served as President of the Capitol Club (professional lobbyist organization), the Salem Chamber of Commerce, and the Salem Education Foundation. He is the Executive Director of the Oregon Cable Telecommunications Association and manages projects pertaining to telecommunication policy planning, land use, agricultural commodities, and environmental planning.
Ms. Emery has been an office administrator for Legislative Advocates for the last 7 years. She focuses on association management, administrative support, and project coordination for clients of Legislative Advocates. Before coming to Legislative Advocates, Ms. Emery worked for the state Bureau of Labor and Industries in Portland and has a degree in Business Administration from Oregon State University.
